Walking passed the display of handsome Egyptian cotton face masks made by Maestro, our local tailor, was a reminder that the question of to-wear-or-not-to-wear face coverings continues to be the hot topic. So much more has been learned in the last three months about the value of wearing masks to keep from catching – or spreading – Covid-19. The World Health Organization (WHO) decided to put out updated wisdom on donning masks. And the right ones to wear.

In a nutshell, the filtration quality of cloth masks is key and should consist of three layers: (1) the innermost layer should be cotton or cotton blends; (2) the outermost layer should be polyester, polypropylene or a blend because it can fend off infected droplets from getting through to the nose and mouth; and (3) a middle layer of cotton or polypropylene for added filtration and retention of infected droplets.

Great advice and I wholeheartedly put on my masks whenever I venture out. But I already have a decent collection of masks – that I might just layer one on top of the other.
